Three District area entrepreneurs have been invited to Yelp’s headquarters in San Francisco to represent the Greater Washington Area as being among the 100 top-rated businesses in North America. Northeast D.C.’s &Pizza, Southeast’s District Doughnut and Peg Leg Vintage of College Park were invited to the Coast-to-Coast: Coming Together Because We Mean Business meeting in San Francisco on Nov. 4 and Nov. 5.

Storytellers Take to the Mic in Ward 8

Story District returns “East of the River” with its monthly program that teaches volunteers the intricacies of storytelling and then gives them a chance to display their prowess at the microphone. Hinton Battle Serves Up Dance, Family Fun

D.C. native Hinton Battle has made his mark on Broadway with credits that include leading roles in “The Wiz,” “Miss Saigon,” “Chicago,” “Dreamgirls” and “The Tap Kid.” Now, the three-time Tony Award winner, who attributes his successful career to always maintaining a serious work ethic, will sponsor a daylong event on Saturday, Oct. 17, in association with nationally-respected choreographer Sonia Dawkins, that will offer dance, food and fun for all.

The Clarice Gets ‘Intimate’Award-Winning Play Arrives at UMD for 1-Week Run

She lives in boarding house sewing intimate apparel for a range of customers in New York City. Esther, an African-American seamstress, saves all of her earnings with the hopes of opening a beauty salon for black women in the pre-Depression era of 1905 where those of color were still very much feeling the affects left by slavery and living the reality that they are seen as lesser.
