Bennett College for Women in Greensboro, North Carolina, has announced that Esther Terry has been appointed as interim president of the historically Black college. She is the first alumna of the college to serve as president of the educational institution. For the past three years, she has been provost and vice president for academic affairs at Bennett College. Previously, she served for nearly four decades on the faculty at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

At the University of Massachusetts, Dr. Terry was chair of the department of Afro-American studies for 19 years. She was instrumental in establishing the university’s graduate degree programs in African American studies.
