Registered nurses will rally outside the John A. Wilson Building on May 12 at 9:15 a.m. to urge the District of Columbia Council to pass the Patient Protection Act to require minimum safe staffing in DC hospitals to protect patients.

After the rally, nurses will deliver copies of a new patient care report to Council members detailing specific incidents of unsafe care that patients in DC hospitals have encountered while the District Council has failed to vote on the Patient Protection Act.
The event at the Wilson Building is part of a global day of action organized by Global Nurses United and its US affiliate, National Nurses United (NNU).
May 12 marks International Nurses’ Day commemorating Florence Nightingale’s birthday.
NNU, the largest union and professional association of registered nurses in the United States, represents 185,000 RNs across the country, including 4,400 in DC. RNs will be joined by several members of the DC Council who support this important legislation, as well as community allies.
