The Redskins would end up needing every one of those minutes to pull out a 23-21 victory over the Cardinals in front of 76,330 at FedEx Field.
The Redskins held the ball for almost 40 minutes throughout the contest but didn't seal the victory until the final two minutes when kicker Graham Gano booted a 34-yard field goal. The Redskins gave away numerous opportunities to score more points by turning the ball over. Quarterback Rex Grossman threw two interceptions in the first quarter and Gano had an earlier field goal blocked.
Despite this, the Redskins managed to score 12 points in the final quarter and were able to pull out the victory. According to Redskins Head Coach Mike Shanahan, the win said a lot about the team's character.
"You've got to find a way to win," said Shanahan. "It shows a lot of character when you stub your toe early and miss opportunities in the first half and come back and move the ball the way we did in the second half."
