Thurgood Marshall Center Hosts Holiday 'Friendraiser'
Monday, 17 December 2012 21:17 Published in LocalThe Thurgood Marshall Center Trust Board of Directors along with the Center's executive director, Thomasina Yearwood, celebrated the holiday season with a party and "friendraiser" Friday, Dec. 14 at the Thurgood Marshall Center for Service and Heritage (TMCSH). The Center, located in Northwest, was beautifully decorated with a holiday theme and guests dined on a delicious buffet.
Yearwood and Debra Allgood White, TMCT board chair recognized the accomplishments of the past year including the re-financing of the building’s mortgage with the Bank of Georgetown under a 10-year $2.65 million fixed loan. The refinancing package will enable the Center to retire the building’s Industrial Revenue Bond financing.
Former Board Chair Lynda Dorman, Jeffrey Banks, Lori Dodson, Thelma Jones, and Dedra Owens were recognized with plaques for their commitment and dedication to TMCT. After a short program, guests watched an entertaining hand dance demonstration from" If Not for Grace Dance" program founders Cassandra Newsome and Vashon Keith.
The TMCT building is at full tenancy, housing a variety of non-profit organizations including the Washington Literacy Center, Columbia Heights Shaw Family Support Collaborative, The NAACP Financial Freedom Center and Project Redirect.
“Refinancing with the Bank of Georgetown allows TMCT to remain a cornerstone of the Washington, DC community for the next 100 years,” said Yearwood. "The Center continues to be a valuable resource to the Shaw and Washington, DC community by providing below market office and meeting space to local non-profits.
