Prince George's County chief health officer, Dr. Donald Shell, has become the latest official under former County Executive Jack Johnson's administration to leave his post.
Shell, who said he was asked to step down, left as director the health department July 22 – the day after Johnson's successor, Rushern Baker, announced an agreement with the University of Maryland Medical system to bring an improved healthcare network to the county and Southern Maryland.
Shell, who had served since 2007 as the county's top medical officer, was expected to be replaced.
He was seated in the audience while the announcement was made surrounding the $600 million vision, but did not participate, according to reports. Elana Belon-Butler will carry on Shell's duties until a permanent replacement is named.
