On the one-year anniversary of iconic performer Michael Jackson’s death nears, fans and industry professionals from around the globe honored his life and legacy. On June 25, Jackson was pronounced dead after a being administered a lethal injection of propofol, along with two anti-anxiety benzodiazepines: lorazepam and midazolam by his personal physician Conrad Murray. Jackson was 50.

The world was shocked to find that Jackson had battled years of addiction to painkillers in the wake of a 1984 explosion that required subsequent medical procedures.

In a bizarre twist of fate, the Jackson “brand” since his death has brought an end to financial woes that plagued him in his last years. Mangers of his
estate, John Branca and John McClain, have reportedly pulled it back from financial ruin by making a string of big deals: a record-contract extension with Sony, a new Jackson-themed video game, two Cirque du Soleil shows and a plethora of merchandise.

Fans, however, including event organizer Joseph Fahmy, planned elaborate, but tasteful remembrances of Jackson. Voice Plate Productions staged the Forever Michael fan event Sat. June 26 at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif.

Jackson’s mother, Katherine said of the event, “I know that Michael would be very honored and very pleased that his fans all over the world are coming together to celebrate his life.”
