In Game 1 of NBA Finals, Kobe Is Not Messing Around
LOS ANGLES -- The Lakers put their foot into any Boston tradition last night. The biggest stats were the plus 18 rebounding advantage and the 16-0 second chance points. The Lakers took advantage of their height and won a game they were supposed to win.
Game Ones are always mad ritzy and it really doesn’t help the Finals opening up in Tinseltown. It’s a different kind of game in Staples and other teams can say they are used to the atmosphere but only the Lakers are truly prepared.
The Celtics were in the game early, but were out of it just as quick.

Ray Allen Shoots a Home Court Advantage Gift
LOS ANGELES -- Going into Game 2, the Celtics were a team written for dead. Pundits were throwing dirt on Boston’s NBA Finals grave prematurely because the Lakers dominated Game 1 102-89. It seemed from the eyes of some that the C’s would not recover because their nucleus was an old tired bunch not able to sustain the physical will to handle Phil Jackson, Kobe Bryant and the Lakers masterful triangle.
Not last night, Ray Allen scored 32 points and hit 8-11 threes to help propel Boston to a 103-94 victory to tie the NBA Finals series 1-1 and gain home court advantage. Before Game 2, Ray Allen was out early with his normal routine of taking shots from all angles with precision and consistency. If Kobe wasn’t messing around in Game 1, this was Allen’s shot after sitting the bench for long stretches saddled in foul trouble.

Entrepreneur and philanthropist Sheila Crump Johnson is the only African-American female to enjoy ownership in three professional sports teams: the WNBA's Washington Mystics, the NBA's Washington Wizards and the NHL's Washington Capitals.
Furthermore, as CEO of Salamander Hospitality, a company she founded in 2005, Ms. Johnson oversees a growing portfolio of luxury properties, including Woodlands Inn, in Summerville, SC, which is one of only a handful of properties to receive both a prestigious Forbes Five Star rating and a AAA Five Diamond rating for lodging and dining.
In 2007, she acquired Innisbrook, a Salamander Golf & Spa Resort. Set on 900 acres, this 72-hole Florida getaway hosts the PGA Tour's annual Transitions Championship and the LPGA Legends Tour Open Championship. The company is also building the eagerly-anticipated Salamander Resort & Spa, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in charming Middleburg, VA.
Stephen Strasburg established a Nationals single-season record with 14 strikeouts, throwing his first major league pitch at 97 mph. Photo by John E De FreitasIn his highly-anticipated MLB debut, Stephen Strasburg established a Washington Nationals single-season record (2005-Present) with 14 strikeouts. Strasburg allowed 2 runs on 4 hits and did not walk a batter in 7.0 innings to earn the win. Strasburg’s 14 strikeouts are one short of the all-time mark of 15 for most strikeouts in a debut (courtesy of Elias Sports Bureau). Strasburg matched a Nationals record with 7 consecutive strikeouts (Chris Schroder – Sept. 17-19, 2006).
Washington sold out Nationals Park for only the second time all season, and went through an extra 2,000 standing-room-only tickets a few hours before the game. Fans cheered when Strasburg emerged from the dugout at 6:24 p.m. with pitching coach Steve McCatty. Surrounded by photographers and cameramen, Strasburg grinned at McCatty and said, ``Let's go. He threw 94 pitches - roughly the limit imposed by management before the game - and 65 were strikes.
"The attention rivals anything I've ever seen in sports," said Nationals team president Stan Kasten, who has been running sports franchises since 1979. "For us, this is as big as it gets. We've got a World Series-sized media contingent here for a Tuesday game against the Pirates."
"It's a red-letter day for the franchise," Mark Lerner, the team's principal owner, said Tuesday. "I think that fans one day will look back and say, 'I was here the day the franchise took the next step.' "

NBA Star Joins Got Milk? ® Campaign to Help Athletes Refuel
After grabbing consecutive rebounds on the court, Washington Mystics forward Crystal Langhorne knows that low fat chocolate milk helps her rebound off of the court. Milk contains nine essential nutrients and a unique mix carbohydrates, protein, fluids and electrolytes to help her body refuel and replenish so that she’s able to bounce back for her next big game or grueling practice.
Langhorne is the most recent athlete to join the National Milk Mustache “got milk?” Campaign and don the famous Milk Mustache. She joins other basketball all-stars who include Diana Taurasi, Chauncey Billups and Deron Williams. These athletes are keenly aware that what they ingest can make a significant difference in their performance.

Game 3: Derek Fisher Stars As Mr. Clutch!
Just when the Celtics were playing as if a furious comeback would be complete, Derek Fisher stepped up, put the franchise he loves so much and represents so well on his back and willed the Los Angeles Lakers to a critical 91-84 Game 3 win. The Lakers lead the best of 7 NBA Finals series 2-1 with Game 4 Thursday in Boston at 9 pm EST on ABC.
Fisher’s most poignant words in the presser were “It’s like being a kid…man you never get tired of that candy.”
His full court drive…the bucket plus the bump and subsequent three point play with three Lakers defending and Los Angeles clinging to a 4 point lead with a little less than a minute remaining was the dagger.

" This is what legends are made of, this is where you grasp the moment," Davis said at his post game press conference. " Just play in the moment. "
All I'm thinking about is, Let's win," Davis said. I' not thinking about anything else. I'm not thinking about Kobe making shots, worried about this
or worried about that. I'm just worried about winning, whatever it takes to win, and just making sure that I give my teamates positive energy to finish
the game."
