Photo by Yusuf AbdullahFormer World Boxing Organization Junior Welterweight champion DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley of DC scored a fourth-round TKO over Detroit, MI’s Damian “Pit Bull” Fuller at the George Mason University Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA.
Corley and Fuller were in a very tight bout for three rounds as both veterans used solid defensive movements to make the bout a very even chess match. But in the fourth, Corley exploded with a right hand to the head and dropped Fuller twice before referee Billy Johnson stopped the bout at 2:49 of the round.

Fourth generation of American cycling dynasty wins 2010 Capital Criterium
The 2010 Capital Criterium presented by the Washington Convention and Sports Authority (CapCrit) attracted huge crowds, a selection of Washington, D.C.’s movers and shakers, and a slate of top professional cycling criterium racers to Pennsylvania Avenue in the heart of the nation’s capital. A packed men’s pro field of nearly 100 racers took to the streets in downtown D.C. to compete on one of the nation’s most challenging criterium courses—an explosive, seven-corner, 1.3 km circuit silhouetted by the U.S. Capitol.
Monumental Sports & Entertainment, which is led by Ted Leonsis and comprises three professional sports teams – the Washington Capitals, Wizards and Mystics – as well as the Verizon Center, released its new brand identity logo today.
The red Monumental “M” and its accompanying star represent Washington, D.C., and signify that Monumental’s three teams and arena reside in the nation’s capital.

The Washington Nationals Dream Foundation is once again teaming up with the Earth Conservation Corps to host the second annual NatsTown Green-up, which gives area residents and local businesses the opportunity to make a difference by beautifying the neighborhood surrounding Nationals Park.

The EagleBank Bowl and the Washington Convention and Sports Authority, in partnership with the NCAA Youth Football Initiative, are hosting a FREE football fundamentals clinic for D.C area youth. Up to 350 youth football players from the DC Pop Warner Football League will receive offensive and defensive training from local college coaches and participate in on-field agility training. In addition, participating youth will be instructed on the benefits of sportsmanship, teamwork and positive character development.

The Washington Mystics squandered a chance to move back into first place in the Eastern Conference standings -- a spot the team held earlier during the week -- after a hard-fought, physical contest with the Indiana Fever. The Mystics lost, 78-73, Sat., July 24 at the Verizon Center in Northwest.

D.C. United is having a difficult time winning games in the MLS but it’s different in friendly international circles. They defeated Spanish soccer powerhouse AC Milan 3-2 in June and on Sat., July 24, English Club Portsmouth F.C., fell 4-0 at RFK in Northeast before a crowd of 8,927 cheering fans.

Justin Friedlander, a basketball enthusiast -- fresh off of a visit to the White House -- where he shot hoops with President Barack Obama, was honored by the Washington Mystics, Sat., July 24 at the Verizon Center in Northwest during the Mystics and Indiana Fever game.
Justin, 13, took home not only the accolades but the bragging rights when he was named, the Mystics’ “Hometown Hero.”
In March 2009, doctors diagnosed Justin with an inoperable brain tumor. Despite his diagnosis, Justin, who lives in Rockville, Md., decided to take action on behalf of others. Later that year, he established “Justin’s Quest,” an initiative to raise awareness about brain tumors and raise money to help find a cure.

Just before 4.00 pm traffic in Chinatown was at a standstill. Mystics fans trying to get to the game arrived late because the Verizon Center was on lock down prior to the arrival of the Presidential motorcade.
It was a welcome surprise for the 9.008 fans to have some very important fans attend the game, President Barack Obama and his daughter Sasha, Ted Leonis and Sheila Johnson. all sitting at courtside many times cheering for the Mystics who are trying to make it to the 2010 WNBA playoffs.
