Suspect in Sean Taylor Case May Change Plea
MIAMI (AP) -- A judge has delayed a decision on whether a suspect in the slaying of Washington Redskins star defensive back Sean Taylor can withdraw his guilty plea.
A hearing was set Friday in Miami on the request by 21-year-old Venjah Hunte. But after a private conference with attorneys, Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Dennis Murphy postponed the issue for another week.
Hunte's plea deal calls for a 29-year prison sentence. He could get life if he goes to trial with four co-defendants.
The 24-year-old Taylor died after being shot in an attempted robbery at his home in November 2007. He was an All-Pro safety with the Redskins who starred in college at the University of Miami.
All five suspects are from the Fort Myers area. Their trial is set for Jan. 18.
