The local favorites who entered the competition with a chance of disrupting the dominance of teams from Jamaica were the women from Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, and the Oxon Hill Clippers form Oxon Hill, Md. Unfortunately, Roosevelt failed to qualify for the 4x400 final, but Oxon Hill did.
The Clippers placed fifth with a time of 3:47.75. According to Clippers Coach Rick Williams this was the fastest time the team has run since 1996.
The Jamaican team Edwin Allen of Clarendon, Jamaica, added another victory to their team’s history and their country’s history by winning the 4x800 High School Girls Championship of America. Less than six hours later the Edwin Allen team took to the field again and won the 4x400 High School Girls Championship of America. Jamaican track and field team has dominated Franklin Field and the Penn Relays in recent years.
The women of Tennessee won the 4x1500 in record time on Friday April 24. The first leg of the race was run by a former local standout, freshman Chanelle Price, who ran the first leg of the race with a time of 4:19.5. Georgetown University finished second in the race with a time of 17:11.80
