The wait is over! Screen Gem's release, "Think Like a Man," hit theaters nationwide on April 20.
This hilarious romantic comedy is based on comedian, author and multimedia mogul Steve Harvey's best-selling book, "Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man," an honestly simple how-to guide for women to help them successfully survive dating, relationships and the opposite sex. With more than 3 million copies sold, the book garnered an envious 64 weeks on the New York Times' best-seller list and 23 weeks at No. 1.
"Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man" was written colorless and I wanted the movie to be colorless," said Harvey. "I was invested in this movie being right. I wanted this to be a universal romantic comedy."
Harvey added that he can relate with many of the movie's characters.
"I have been all of these characters in my life except for one. I was only a momma's boy until I was 10," he said. "I don't care who you are, at some point in your life you were one of these women, and I don't care where in the world you are, one of those guys is you. You are on that screen and that's what makes this movie."
The highly-anticipated "Think Like a Man" was directed by Tim Story and written by Keith Merryman and David A. Newman. Story's creativity and vision have resonated in popular films such as "Barbershop" and "Fantastic Four." The film was produced by Rainforest Films, Will Packer in collaboration with Screen Gems. Previous collaborations by the two powerhouse companies include films such as "Stomp The Yard," "This Christmas" and "Takers."
"Tim Story did the best directing job on a movie like this that I have ever seen," Harvey said. "The script worked from the beginning. The actors had the freedom to create. I'm not a movie star, so this experience has been humbling. If you'd asked if I expected the book ,"Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man" to sell over 3 million copies, and then be turned into a movie, I wouldn't have said 'Yes.' This is really been amazing!"
The film has no shortage of talented star power. The cast includes Silver Spring, Md.'s own, Michael Ealy; Jerry Ferrara; Meagan Good; Regina Hall; Kevin Hart; Taraji P. Henson; Terrence J; Jenifer Lewis; La La Anthony; Romany Malco; Gary Owen; Gabrielle Union; and Chris Brown.
Hart, who is no stranger to films, does not disappoint as Cedric, the comedically-overjoyed divorced guy, and his role is the perfect call-back to his most recent stand-up feature, "Laugh At My Pain".
The romantic comedy follows the adventure of a group of friends and their adventures through dating, friendship and relationships.
The storyline gets interesting when Lauren (Taraji P. Henson); Kristen (Gabrielle Union); Candace (Regina Hall); and Mya (Meagan Good) decide they have had enough of trying to figure out dating, relationships and men on their own -- and enlist the guidance and sex expertise of Harvey's book.
The newly-empowered women start to strategically implement their new-found power and knowledge to turn the tables on their significant others.
At first, the men are clueless to what is going on, but slowly begin to discover that the women are using the book -- written by one of their own -- against them. The men decide to fight back and the war of the sexes begins.
"I loved this script. Dominic is a younger me. My character stole a car just to meet a girl," said Ealy. "He was fearless in that moment, and perhaps in that moment, what some may consider reckless, actually was quite romantic, and may end up being the turning point in his life. That's the power of a woman."
