Senior guard LaQuanda Brandon led the number 23rd ranked University of the District of Columbia Firebirds Womenâ€™s Basketball Team to an 80-56, win over the Elizabeth City State University Vikings last week in the Physical Activities Center. Brandon scored 17 points and collected three rebounds in leading the team to the victory. UDC had five players in double figures as they dominated every statistical category.
Also scoring in double figures were senior guard Deyshia Williams (Camden, NJ) with 14 points and 8 rebounds, junior guard Nicole Cooper (Fort Washington, MD) 11 points and 3 assists, sophomore center Lillian McGill (Sumter, SC) with a double-double of 10 points and 17 rebounds, and senior guard DeVaughn Hailey (Camden, NJ), who scored 10 points and dished out five assists.
The UDC Firebirds Womenâ€™s Basketball team moved up to 23rd in the most recent USA Today /ESPN Division II Top Coachesâ€™ Poll. The Firebirds are now 14-2 , and have a seven game winning streak. Senior guard LaQuanda Brandon (Washington, DC), who is averaging 13.9 ppg, continues to lead the Firebirds in scoring followed by sophomore center Lillian McGill (Sumter, SC) averaging 13.8 ppg. McGill is ranked 16th in rebounds per game among NCAA DII schools, averaging 10.9 rpg. She is also ranked 16th in field-goal percentages, with a completion rate of 57.3 ppg.
