photo-3-300x200ASHBURN, VA. – Washington Redskins wide receiver Donté Stallworth kicked off the American Heart Association's fourth annual 'Recess' event to fight childhood obesity at the Watkins Recreation Center in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, Sept. 27.

'Recess' is a program full of educational activities that teaches children how to stay active and lead healthier lives. Stallworth jumpstarted the event by leading approximately 250 children in warm-ups and then educated them on the importance of exercising.

"Washington, D.C. has one of the highest child obesity rates in the nation," said Stallworth. "I'm happy that the Redskins are able to help empower children to exercise, make healthier food choices and live longer lives."

Children enjoyed various activity stations such as 'Cheer Station', hosted by the Washington Redskins Cheerleaders; 'Pigskin Toss', hosted by the DC Divas; and 'Nutrition', led by Holli Thompson Nutritional Style. An obstacle course by PULSE and a Zumba Fitness station were also featured.{gallery}redskins-community-11-09-29/{/gallery}

Presented by Legacy and CareFirst, 'Recess' is an event conducted by the American Heart Association with support from the Washington Redskins and GlaxoSmithKline. Twenty children who are exemplary participants in the 'Recess' program will be rewarded tickets to the Washington Redskins and New York Jets game on Sunday, Dec. 4.

"The 'Recess' event demonstrates the power and positive impact of this truly unique, collaborative partnership between the Redskins, GlaxoSmithKline, the American Heart Association, CareFirst and several other community health partner organizations," said Mitch Gershman, Washington Redskins Chief Marketing Officer. "The Redskins, in tandem with our flagship health and wellness partner GlaxoSmithKline, look forward to continue serving as a fundamental part in helping children obtain a healthier future."
