On January 17th, the NBA honored the accomplishments and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King during the 13 games played that day. January 17th marks the 25th year of observance for the Martin Luther King Jr. National Holiday. In honor of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Washington Wizards and Mystics Community Relations department hosted a one hour interactive panel discussion with youths from the metropolitan area prior to the Wizards vs Utah Jazz home game.
The forum “We Are Dreamers,” honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.was discussed. The students range from the ages of 14 to 17 years and were from various schools and after school programs in the area. The students had the opportunity to discuss their dreams and aspirations with local professionals from diverse backgrounds. Panelists included Comcast SportsNet’s Chris Miller, NBC-4 sports anchor Lindsay Czarniak, Mystics Head Coach Trudi Lacey, pediatrician Dr. Stephanie Pope, FOX-5 meteorologist Gwen Tolbart, renowned photographer Louis Myrie, and MorningStar Guidance & Counseling Services, Inc., Executive Director Jennifer Olden.
