The defending NBA Champion Los Angeles Lakers outscored the Phoenix Suns 34-22 in the fourth quarter to take 2-0 lead in their best of seven series for the Western Division Playoffs. Pau Gasol scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Lakers in front of a sold out Staple Center crowd of 18,997 in Los Angeles.
The Suns, who double teamed Kobe Bryant in the final quarter, allowed the Laker big man open looks at the basket. " I was being effective and just finishing plays," said Gasol. " We just continued to go at it because it was working pretty well for us." he said at the post game press conference.
" Were shooting the ball very well, moving the ball very well, really well. "said Gasol. " Our bench is playing at a high level, and where really stepping up."

The Laker led at the 65-56 behind the shooting of Andrew Bynum who scored 11 points in the first half. The Suns stormed back behind Grant Hill's 14 points in the third quarter. At the end of three it was tied a 90-90. It was then that the Lakers picked up the offense behind Bryant and Gasol.
" It makes the game a lot easier to have Gasol inside to catch and complete plays," Bryant said at the post game conference. Bryant finished with 13 assist.
The Lakers with Gasol's 29 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assist led the Laker scoring parade. Kobe chipped in with 21 points, 13 assist, and 5 rebounds. Ron Artest shooting 6-9 from the floor finished with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Andrew Bynum finished his night with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Lamar Odom off the bench had another great effort with 17 points,11 rebounds, and 4 assist.
The Suns were led by Jason Richardson who finished with 27 points. Grant Hill chipped in with 23 points and 4 rebounds. Jared Dudley played well with 15 points and 5 rebounds but fouled out.
" We can't slow them down," said Phoenix coach Alvin Gentry at his post game conference. There's a good reason they are the world champs, but we'll keep plugging away, keep trying."
The Lakers outshot the Suns 57% to 49% from the floor. They also out rebounded the visitors 39-34. Game three is Sunday night in Phoenix.
