The undercard bout will feature undefeated heavyweight contender Seth "Mayham" Mitchell of Brandywine, Md. Mitchell's opponent is still to be determined.
This is a big deal for a city that produces many top quality fighters, but never has had the national stage to showcase talents in their own backyard.
When Khan was asked why he chose to fight to fight Peterson in his hometown, Khan replied "I know Lamont is a strong contender but it doesn't matter that I'm fighting him in his backyard. I'm coming in as the champion and will leave as the champion."
Peterson followed up, telling members of the media that "I'm very happy for my chance to fight for a world title again, and I'm sure Khan will train hard to defend his titles. So I'll train harder to take his titles."
As Peterson paused at the podium, he responded a short but powerful statement : "Winning a world title in my hometown is a dream come true."
