This week I'm pleased to share with you the second principle. The topic is "Faith." Although you’ve read my reflections on the subject of faith often in this column, please understand what I’ve learned. It has helped me in my thinking process, and it will help you too. During author Napoleon Hill’s 20 years of research, he traveled across America interviewing successful leaders, and could not emphasize enough, the need for faith.

Last week, it became clear to me that my anemia – or lack of iron – had become a problem. Diagnosed 29 years ago when my youngest son was born, the doctor reminded me that I would be fine by simply taking over-the-counter iron supplements.
Born weighing 13 pounds, I always had an abundance of energy and seemed to flourish without iron supplements. I didn’t realize that I was getting my iron from my diet – with super foods, green drinks and other fruit and vegetable smoothies that I prepare for myself every morning.

A person who reads this column may decide to take steps to reprogram their thinking. This article is written for you. Richardson entitled, “The Urgency of NOW”. Reflecting on the opening statement of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s 1963 speech at the Lincoln Memorial in the nation’s capital, where Dr. King publicly avowed, “We have come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of Now”.
Urging the conference towards that same urgency, Bishop Richardson declared a need to deliberate and intentional actions because the community needs our attention; people need our love and the church doors must literally be open seven days a week for vibrant worship, fervent prayer and to meet the needs of the people.
Almost 30 percent of the people in the United States have not participated in the 2010 Census, and two black organizations are now taking the “Count Me In” message to churches to tap those hard to reach people.
“People may turn off the television. They may not listen to the radio, and they may not get on the Internet, but they come to church,” said the Rev. T. DeWitt Smith Jr. of the National African American Clergy Network. That organization, along with the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, launched a campaign on Sunday to target churches with specific messages and prayers through the end of June. Some ministers and church associates also are using social media in the campaign.

Imagination is the workshop of your mind, capable of turning mind energy into accomplishment and wealth, said author Napoleon Hill. He also said: First comes thought; then organization of that thought into ideas and plans; then transformation of those plans into reality. The beginning, as you will observe, is in the imagination.

We live in the world's wealthiest nation, but nearly 15 percent of U.S. households can’t afford enough food to feed themselves. Alarmingly, hunger and poverty rates are higher among African-Americans than the general U.S. population: One in four African-American households struggles to put food on the table. As Congress returns from its August recess, we should urge members to focus on the needs of hungry and poor people—and not balance the budget on their backs.
For a low-income family, bills for expenses such as rent, transportation, utilities, and child care are fixed; food is often the most flexible expense. As expenses rise, the tough economy has made hunger even more troublesome, especially for African-American children. Thirty-four percent live in families that have difficulty feeding them.

US President Barack Obama has ordered a revision of America’s National Security Strategy to remove terms that link Islam to terrorism, administration officials said.
The officials said the change would remove terms like “Islamic radicalism” from the National Security Strategy, a document that was created by the previous administration to outline the Bush doctrine of pre-emptive war.
The US National Security Strategy outlines major national security concerns and the methods to deal with them. Such documents are prepared periodically by the executive branch of the government for Congress. US media outlets often refer to this document for borrowing terms to use in a report.
