Women’s Basketball Team moved up two positions to the # 20th spot in the USA Today ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll this week. The Firebirds are on an eight game win streak after defeating the University of the Sciences Philadelphia on Sat. 63-33, on Sat. Jan. 17.
Led by senior guard LaQuanda Brandon (Washington, DC), who is averaging 13.9 ppg, and sophomore center Lillian McGill (Sumter, SC) averaging 13.5 ppg, the Firebirds look to extend their win streak next week when they play the Columbia Union College Pioneers in Takoma Park, Md.
UDC competes as an NCAA Division II Independent school. The Firebirds won the 2008
Independent Schools Tournament last year and received 17 votes in the 2008-09 Pre-season USA Today /ESPN Poll.

National Signing Day is the day that high school seniors announce the schools they have chosen to attend, and play football for. Held this year on Wed. Feb., 4, it has become a day of celebration from high school athletes across the country, many of whom were heavily recruited by some of the top colleges in the country.
The Bowie State Bulldogs improved their record to 13-11 overall after dropping Lincoln University of Pennsylvania 72-59 in a non-conference contest.
Denzel Mooney led the Lions with a career-high 23 points and four 3-pointers. Mooney shot 8-for-14 from the field and 3-for-5 from the free throw line. Also scoring in double digits for the Lions was Jabyron Wilson who finished with 22 points and 13 rebounds.

It wasn't very pretty but Bowie State completed the series sweep against Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, defeating the Lady Lions 68-52. Junior Bianca Lee scored a game-high 14 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs.
It was rough start for Lincoln (Pa.) as the Lady Lions fell behind 37-21 by halftime. Lincoln (Pa.) made only seven-of-34 (21 percent) field goal attempts in the first half. Twenty of the Lady Lions attempts were behind the arc with three being successful.

Playing a great portion of the game with reserves, Bowie State University had no trouble pounding Columbia Union College 68-39. The loss ends the CUC Lady Pioneers season with a 0-24 record. Bowie State closes out the regular season with a 17-10 record and will return to action Tue., Feb. 24 in the quarterfinal round of the CIAA Tournament in Charlotte.

The Hoyas paid tribute to the 1984 title team at halftime, with eight players on hand to receive commemorative bowls. Star center Patrick Ewing delivered a recorded message via the giant scoreboard.
