Kevin Anderson has been hired as the new director of athletics at the University of Maryland, Acting President Nariman Farvardin and President-Designate Dr. Wallace Loh announced Saturday.
Anderson comes to Maryland from the United States Military Academy, where he has directed Army's athletics department since 2004. At Army, Anderson has been responsible for a 25-sport program that served more than 900 cadet-athletes.

Hampton, VA – Last weekend produced mixed results for the CIAA as it enjoyed exhilarating victories as well as disappointing defeats. This weekend, ten CIAA schools will be in action and eight of them will be meeting nonconference opponents. The lone contest featuring CIAA teams, Bowie State – Fayetteville State , is a rematch of the 2009 Championship Game. However, several nonconference tilts will be important as the league continues to raise its football reputation.

Six Days of Wizards Action in Northern Virginia Tip Off at Midnight on September 28
The Washington Wizards announced today that the team will hold their 2011 training camp at the Patriot Center on the campus of George Mason University in Fairfax , VA. Training camp will begin with a “Midnight Madness” practice on Sept. 28 and conclude with a FanFest and open scrimmage on Oct. 3.
“Our relationship with George Mason University and the Patriot Center allows us to conduct a locally based training camp at an outstanding facility located in the greater D.C. area,” said Wizards Executive Vice President of Business Operations Greg Bibb. “We’re thrilled that our fans will be able to take part in the official start of the season and we’re looking forward to the opportunity to reach out to potential new fans in Northern Virginia .”

DURHAM, NC-For the second week in a row, Winston-Salem State hit the road to do battle with a longstanding state rival from the Division I FCS Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Different week, same outcome as the Rams traveled to Durham and pulled out a thrilling 34-27 win over the North Carolina Central Eagles.
Sophomore quarterback Kameron Smith passed for 294 and five touchdowns, including a 31-yarder to Tehvyn Brantley that put the Rams ahead for good with 1:34 left in the game as the Rams improved to 3-0 for the first time since 1991.

The crowd was also, according to Shanahan, a big factor in the team’s victory. “The crowd was huge,” Shanahan said. “We know the Cowboys had a tough time with their snap counts and that was definitely because of the fans. They were great.”
The Redskins offense was anemic on this evening, getting just two field goals from placekicker Graham Gano. However, the defense and special teams took up the slack, making numerous plays and managing the only points for the Redskins.
The big play came late in the first half when Cowboys running back Tashard Choice fumbled the football. Redskins defensive back DeAngelo Hall picked the ball up and scampered 32 yards into the end zone to give the team a 10-0 lead at the half.
Along with the two Gano field goals, the Redskins got a key play in the game from their special teams in the first half when Byron Westbrook downed a Josh Bidwell punt at the Cowboys one-yard line. The Cowboys could not move the ball on the ensuing offensive sequence.

Khalid Naji-AllahThe Howard University Bison football team dropped their MEAC Conference opener to the Pirates of Hampton 31-21 on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Greene Stadium in Washington, D.C. In front of a crowd of 7,086.
The Bison jumped out to a 7-0 lead on a 15 yard run by quarterback Casey Council with 10:24 remaining in the first quarter.
Hampton returned the favor with 1:47 left in that first quarter on a one yard run by Steve Robinson. That touchdown culminated an 80 yard drive on 17 plays.Howard took a 14-7 lead in the second quarter on a two yard run by Terrance Laffall with 2:46 remaining in the first half.

Bowie State Bulldogs
Bowie State University named Anton Goff as the institution’s new director of athletics, effective October 1. Goff, formerly associate director for the Academic Support and Career Development Unit (ASCDU) at the University of Maryland College Park (UMCP), served in collegiate athletics administration for the past 15 years.
A press conference at Bowie State is scheduled for Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at 3 p.m. The event’s location is the Thurgood Marshall Library in the Special Collections Room on the second floor.
