Campaign to Call for One Million People to Register to Vote on Easter
A coalition of African American clergy plans to register one million new voters on Easter Sunday. Churches across the country will be asked to register at least 20 new voters.
Reverend Jamal Bryant,pastor of Empowerment Temple in Baltimore, Md., calls it the Empowerment Movement.It is an initiative of leaders across many faiths who will use Christian principles to move the African American forward in politics, education and economics.
The faith-based organization's website (www.empowermentmovement.org) features a list of African American facts that sheds a unique perspective of Black America. Bryant is also featured, along with first lady Michelle Obama, and several civil rights icons.
There are reportedly an estimated 500,000 Black churches in America, and over five million unregistered voters inside the black church.
