Former D.C. Council Chairman Kwame Brown has been ordered by a U. S. District Court judge to not leave his home between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6:30 a.m.

The imposition is the result of Brown's failure to keep regular check-ins with the Court after he pleaded guilty earlier this year to bank fraud. He had been ordered to check in with court officials weekly, and not cooperating constituted violation of rules that enabled him to remain free until his sentencing in November. While Brown contacted court officials regarding a trip he wanted to take to Florida this past summer, he reportedly failed to contact them at least three times.

"Maybe I could understand it once," Judge Richard Leon was quoted as saying when Brown appeared before him on Oct. 9.

Brown, who said he thought he had been checking in as required by phone when he called about other matters, responded that, "I shouldn't have wasted the courts time."
