The historic Metropolitan A.M.E. Church in downtown D.C. hosts several events this month that address some of the most pressing issues in the African American community – jobs, homes, and stopping the prison pipeline in its tracks.
On Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p. m.,Metropolitan AME Church and the Daniel Alexander Payne Community Development Corporation will host the Moneywise Empowerment Tour. This free, all-day conference provides seminars on how to find a job, how to save your home, how to start a business, how to restore your finances, among other resources.
Speakers and exhibitors from the federal and District government and public, private and nonprofit sectors include PBS-TV's Kelvin Boston and Dennis Kimbro, success coach and author of Think and Gro Rich: a Black Choice.
Highlights include OppsPlace, an online jobs bank with 12,000 jobs and supplier-diversity opportunities, live, on-site resume reviews courtesy of Hugh Bailey of Ashlin Management Group of Greenbelt, Md., and low-cost and second-chance banking options from BankOn DC .

From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, Metropolitan AME hosts "Stop the Pipeline to Prison: Create Education Opportunities, Jobs and Wealth."
Moderated by Harvard University Professor Charles Ogletree, this forum features a panel of experts who will to address the over-representation of minorities in the prison system and the tragic waste of human lives.
The forum is co-sponsored through the Daniel Alexander Payne Community Development Corporation, the Bethel Literary Historical Society, and the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation. A reception will follow, and Dr. Ogletree is also the speaker at both services on Sunday, Nov. 18.
