Pro boxers Lamont and Anthony Peterson/Courtesy PhotoWard 8 Council member Marion Barry will be joined for his annual Ward 8 Turkey Give-Away at 12:30 p.m. Tues., Nov. 22 by native Washingtonians and professional boxing contenders Lamont and Anthony Peterson.
"It's just great to have these guys return to Southeast Washington to show their support for my annual Ward 8 Turkey Give -Away," Barry said. "With all this muscle and strength around, nobody will have a problem carrying away a turkey. . . I need this kind of help to give-a-way these 2,000 turkeys."
The turkeys will be given away by at Union Temple Baptist Church, 1225 W Street in Southeast between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
This is the fourth year Barry has held the event, where families in Southeast have collectively received more than 10,000 turkeys.
Lamont Peterson, a junior welterweight who is ranked the number one contender by the IBF, will be fighting Amir Khan Dec. 10 at Walter E. Washington Convention Center for the IBF and WBO championships.
Anthony Peterson, a lightweight, will also be fighting on an undercard that same night
