White Kids Say the Darndest Things

I'm sorry but maybe I'm just feeling a bit cynical after the last week of news coverage of our great White American youth. To be fair: only about 10 percent of students at Penn State rioted and acted like morons over the firing of Pedophile ring co-conspirator (Yeah I said it, and yes it will turn out to be true) Joe Paterno.

And yes, there weren't only White students rioting, even in state college there are some brown and tan people milling around. However, the majority of the kids were White – and it has struck me and many friends and colleagues how it has been a week and there have been no arrests of rioting students.

Just a few hours after police caught a crazy man shooting into the White House earlier last week Lauren E. Pierce, president of the College Republicans at the University of Texas Tweeted:

Y'all as tempting as it may be, don't shoot Obama. We need him to go down in history as the WORST president we've EVER had! #2012."

This has received a smattering of press coverage but again, membership seems to have its privileges.

Juvenile Issue 3 (Ohio) , if passed, would require all juveniles to speak with an actual attorney before waiving their right to anything. It doesn't take a lot of brainpower to figure out exactly who this type of legislation benefits most.

Poor and minority children are often thrown in the slammer for the same types of crimes and misdemeanors that kids of means get out of by talking with their Daddy's lawyer friends from college.

Moreover, if the law passes it could also speed up the juvenile justice system since kids would get adequate counsel from jump rather than agreeing to sentences that are unfair – then spending 12 months trying to backtrack through the legal system.
