About 250 students from Reid Temple Christian Academy recently held a "mini-walk" to support Fannie Mae's "Help the Homeless Program,"
which benefits service provider, Covenant House Washington.
The walk was one of many leading to the federal agency's "Help the Homeless Walkathon 2011" to be held Nov. 19 on the National Mall.
Since 1988, the Help the Homeless Program has raised more than $85 million, impacting thousands of families and children in District of Columbia area communities.
The program also helps local organizations raise funds and expand their capacity to serve the homeless population, while educating the public about issues of homelessness and encouraging volunteerism.
