Foreclosure Center in Prince George's County Provides Lifeline for Residents

Fannie Mae has opened a new mortgage help center in Greenbelt, Md., to help homeowners better understand their options when faced with a foreclosure.

The Capital Area Mortgage Help center, which opened its doors on Nov. 9, will assist homeowners with receive free informative and one-on-one counseling services.

"[In Prince George's County,] we lead the state in the number of foreclosures," Aisha Braveboy (D-Dist. 25) said. "In my district, we have one of the highest foreclosure rates in the county," the broker/consultant for the Blue Chip Brokerage Group, added.

County Executive Rushern L. Baker joined Mike Williams, president and chief executive officer for Fannie Mae and Marcia Griffin, president and founder of HomeFree-USA, for a special open house to launch the center.

Washington area homeowners who are in default or who may be at risk of foreclosure will have the opportunity to meet directly with experienced housing advisors who speak English and Spanish to discuss their mortgage situation. The face-to-face meetings will also help borrowers find out how to prevent a foreclosure and give them the tools needed work closely with servicers to achieve a prompt response.

There are 12 centers like the Greenbelt center across the country.
