Through the national "Be A Reader" partnership, Carl Buddig & Company has announced its donation of $100,000 to Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) in support of children's literacy programs.

Meanwhile, the Be A Reader tour recently made a stop at Prospect Learning Center in Northeast where a group of D.C. firefighters joined the fun. The firefighters read aloud to a classroom of 2nd to 5th-grade students and answered questions about what it takes to be a firefighter.Firefighters_visit

In addition to receiving a free book for their home libraries, students were inspired and motivated to make reading a part of everyday life.

"We were thrilled to be included on the back-to-school Be A Reader tour," said Keesha Blythe, principal at Prospect Learning Center. "Without RIF and committed partners like Buddig, many children in our community would not have access to books."

Tom Buddig, Carl Buddig & Co. executive vice president for marketing, said his firm's brand has been nourishing young minds for more than 100 years.

"We believe that reading and literacy go hand-in-hand with good nutrition to support a life-long love of learning," Buddig said "We're thrilled to be sponsoring the Be A Reader tour and proud to be part of the work that RIF is doing in local communities across the nation."

The Be A Reader campaign extends through May 2012 and encourages families to enjoy reading time together through activities, special promotions, and community outreach.
