Dr. Turner-Lee and the others designated by AWM as Sixty @60 will be honored Nov. 3 in New York at the organization's 60th Anniversary Luncheon.

Nominations were submitted by a national poll of AWM community members, and the winners were chosen on the basis of their inspiring leadership in contemporary media.

Among the other honorees are Oprah Winfrey, pioneering radio and television executive Cathy Hughes, Federal Communications Commissioner Mignon Clyburn and television newscaster Gwen Ifill.

Also included are ABC News Anchor Diane Sawyer, Author-poet Maya Angelou, New York Times Executive Editor Jill Abramson, Academy Award-winning Director Kathryn Bigelow and actress-writer Tina Fey.

Turner-Lee is the first director of the Joint Center's Media and Technology Institute, which conducts research on technology and trends in media, with a focus on how they affect policy and regulation from a social justice perspective, as well as how emerging communications technologies can become avenues of advancement for the disadvantaged.
