WASHINGTON, D.C. - Members of the D.C, City Council, Mayor Vincent Gray, and DC Vote will travel to New Hampshire on Thursday (Jan. 12) to give testimony related to the Districts' fight for statehood.

"This is an important initiative for the self-determination movement in the District," said Council Chairman Kwame Brown. "We cannot achieve our goal of statehood without the support of

the states. New Hampshire is a friend to the more than 600,000 residents who live, work, and do business in this great city and we are grateful to them for their show of support."

At-Large Councilmember David Catania is credited with spearheading the excursion, based on relationships he has built over the years in New Hampshire.

"We in the District have spent enough time talking to ourselves about the issue of statehood," said Catania. "We were convinced long ago. For our efforts to be successful, we must expand the conversation about statehood. Our trip to New Hampshire marks the start of that expanded conversation."

At-Large Councilmember Michael Brown has taken the lead in promoting statehood for the Council. He is responsible for launching a new, nationwide initiative last year focused on getting such resolutions passed in state legislatures.

"This is the first step of a renewed campaign to secure supportive leaders in state legislatures across the nation. We encourage all residents to join the fight and sign our petition for democracy at Statehooddc.com," stated Brown.

New Hampshire is the first state on the itinerary. The state is a logical starting point considering its motto ("Live Free or Die") and the parallels to the District's "Taxation Without Representation"' protest theme. The Council visited the New Hampshire legislature previously in 2008.

In addition to giving testimony, D.C. officials will deliver a ceremonial resolution, which was voted upon at today's legislative meeting to demonstrate the city's appreciation to the people of New Hampshire for their support of the fight for D.C. statehood.

Dear Sir/Madam, I have read and also heard that you may be cnittug your offices down and would like to make a sugestion for the ones you want to sell. The idea i had was to make it into a hotel, with it being near the football stadiums and the river trent it could help Nottingham bring in more torrists and revenue to the city. As a Nottinghamshire resident i think it would be a waste of a historical build by knocking parts of it down or becoming partly dereliced. I hope that my suggestion will help you with what may come of the rest of the building.ThankyouMiss Mandy Bailey

My dsreeat Luke,This High Court decision is excellent news. At long last a certain council officer of Irish extraction can be rewarded most generously for his sterling service to the community. He bravely helped facilitate the speedy demolition of this historic eyesore by feeding the Councillors exactly what information was required, regardless of any risk to his own moral standing.Furthermore, those members of the Planning Sub-Committee who remained compliant will now receive suitable remunerations for their loyalty. But what of Linda, who failed to vote through the Dalston demolition and development? Has she jeopardised any chance of you settling down to a finca in Competa, alongside other members of the Planning Sub-Committee? I am concerned. Pray do tell!Yours affectionately,iLikeAkehurstFanClub

Apology not acpceted, Luke. Get real. The Council's new Ante-Corruption Audit is a once in a lifetime opportunity to remove the Council's derelict old financial records and replace them with shiny new ones. You cant stop the waves of progress Luke so stop being an utter and complete Cnut. The independent auditors, Frank Frankley & Co., have confirmed that all the old records are unsound and that it is totally uneconomic to restore all those missing pages. And there's no truth in the rumour that Frank knew, when he wrote the report, that he was in any way related to F Frankley & Co who got the job of working with Syd Barrratt to remove the old records or that Mayor Pipsqueak realised he'd already given Syd & Frank the job months ago when his Cabinet voted to do so the other night. So enough of this carping Luke the new financial records will demonstrate Hackney is a pristine bastion of public probity, and just in time for the Olympics.

Over the eirnte Charette process and the Open Houses related to the OCP 2030, citizens constantly told anyone who would listen that physical and visual access to the lake were important to them. Both of the proposed development maps (Map 5.9 C1 & C2) ignore these requirements. These proposal would create a 26 storey boundary around the downtown core.In order to create an accessible and inviting downtown the building height should be stepped from Abbott to Ellis (4 storeys to 12 storeys) and building higher than 12 storeys should only be allowed in the Ellis/St Paul/Bertram Streets corridor. Buildings higher than 12 storeys should not be considered considered mid-rise residential/commercial buildings in the context of Kelowna. It will be interesting to hear the comments from our Council candidates on this proposal from the consultants.

I agree with Mike's last cmonemt. Having Council's commitment to the OCP is a huge step forward. At least the plan can now serve as a concrete reference. But its successful implementation depends on the political will of our cycling community.

, I to worry that this will lgalery get cut when budget time comes that's why we need to make sure that we keep reminding council that there is both popular support and value behind this.
