Another former city official has been accused of fraudulently using city funds.

William Shelton, who served as chairman of the Ward 5B Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC), resigned in August. He has been accused of using a city-issued debit card to make payments on his Lexus and shop at Bloomingdale's.

All totaled, Shelton allegedly spent $28,000 of taxpayer money on payments and purchases in 2010 and 2011.  Following an audit last summer, Shelton was charged in court with "access device fraud," which means he will almost certainly agree to a plea deal.

Under the agreement, Shelton will pay an initial installment of $5,000, then $200 a month. In the event he fails to pay on time, Shelton will be subject to triple damages.
