In honor of Black History Month, Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) is holding an event from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Feb. 8 at the Library of Congress (LOC) to inspire more minority children to read.
For instance, did you know that 67 percent of white children are read to every day, but that only 35 percent of Black children are read to every day?
One reason may be because their parents can't find books depicting minority characters.
RIF's celebration on Wednesday of the 2011-12 "Multicultural Book Collection" takes place at LOC's Young Readers Center, 10 First St. in Southeast.
The event will feature a panel discussion with award-winning Black and Latino children's authors, with RIF making a donation of multicultural books to LOC.
