A measure to impose a 5 cents bag tax in Prince George's County has been killed by a legislative committee. The County Council voted 8-0 this week in favor of the bill on plastic bags, and while most county residents have supported the tax, others have expressed concern that it would burden the poor.

The bill still faces approval form the General Assembly where it also has to get a nod form the Prince George's County House delegation.

Meanwhile, having the tax could reduce costs aligned with the County's environmental cleanup costs, according to officials.
