WASHINGTON - A town hall-style summit for District of Columbia residents has been praised for engaging the public but criticized for its $600,000 price tag and rigid structure.

Mayor Vincent Gray hosted the summit Saturday at the Washington Convention Center. About 1,700 residents attended.

At the start of the event, facilitators told participants that electronic devices and tweeting were prohibited, prompting a brief outcry. The decision was later reversed. Some participants also say they found the event too structured.

City officials say private donations covered $50,000 of the $600,000 cost. The executive director of the D.C. Republican Committee called the event a waste of money.

Participant David Camero says it was "nice of the mayor" to hold the summit and said he appreciated the opportunity to hear ideas about the city's future.

You're sniarcg me. I am NEVER going to send that query letter! Eek!OK, I will send it eventually. But I won't pretend that I have a thick skin and can take whatever the agent says. I have a rather thin skin and I will very likely cringe and shrivel into a little ball of goo and cry for a while. But, then I will get up, find someone to hug me, ask my husband for validation, and I'll go on to whatever the next step is, whether it's querying in another direction, or fixing what is wrong with the MS as it is.Personally, I am counting down the days to June 27 when I can get my hands on The Devil's Garden !

H probably could have saved a ton of money and gathered data more honestly by doing the thing online and letting everyone with a laptop, slate or smartphone, or access to a library tune in from home. you could then gather data in real time, save a mint on free lunches and renting convention center space, you could probably get more participants and the saved money could be set toward the ideas

He should of paid for it. The powerpoint presentation was prepared before the summit. Our table was 1 of the 3 tables that saw that this was not a live summit, that was presented to us. There was no way that they could collect all that data that fast and presented to us. From section 4 on it was done proper.
