Audelco Award Winner Rome Neal’s solo performance is riveting. He is Monk. If there ever was a marriage made in heaven, this is it - between the actor and the material. Laurence Holder’s incredible “slide†into the essence of the incredible musical genius of Thelonious Sphere Monk and what drove him, what made him tick; how the political and cultural scene had its impact on his natural talent – is remarkable.
George V. Johnson, Jr. showcases talent and entertainment in the Washington metropolitan area. Producing “Monk†and bringing Neal to the Historic Blair Mansion has to be one of Johnson’s most rewarding efforts. The awesome theatre experience, brought by Neal, gives the audience a glimpse into the brain and soul of one of the most inventive pianists of our time.
So, whether or not you are a jazz lover, and especially if you are or claim to be, make it a point not to miss “Monk The Play†by Holder and starring Neal as Thelonious Monk at 3 p.m. on Sundays through June 28.
