Today, the Washington Kastles announced that they will play the 2011 and 2012 seasons in a new stadium that will be specially constructed for them in Southwest Washington, D.C. The new Kastles Stadium at The Wharf will be located at 800 Water Street, S.W. Fans at the new stadium will watch some of the world’s best known and most iconic players against a backdrop of the Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial and the Potomac River. The Kastles, led by Serena Williams, Venus Williams and Sam Querrey, will inaugurate their new home during the 2011 World TeamTennis (WTT) season, which runs from July 4-24.

“As a native Washingtonian, I am committed to investing in our community and, through the Kastles, hope to create lifelong memories for people throughout our region,” said team owner Mark Ein. “We are excited to bring the Kastles and lots of other entertaining events to our spectacular new home in Southwest Washington and are thrilled to be part of the rebirth of that part of town. We know our fans will be treated to great summer nights in one of the most unique venues anywhere.”

The Athletic Programs Administration (APA) of the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) runs citywide Youth Basketball Leagues during the winter months. Teams from across the city converged upon Stoddert Elementary School in Northwest on Sat., April 2, to participate in the championship games – and determine the champions based on specific age groups. Prior to the championship games, teams played at various locations throughout the District between January and March.

Wizards forward Andray Blatche who missed 11 games due to a shoulder injury returned to action at the Verizon Center on Fri., April 1. He scored 36 points, grabbed 19 rebounds and set a new franchise record with 16 offensive rebounds -- the most in the NBA this season. "I'm just happy to be back," Blatche said. "I had a chance to look, and I was kind of hurt, not playing a couple of weeks. The whole time I was out, it made me see that [I shouldn’t take anything] for granted. MANILA—Quickly bouncing back from a wrongly ruled knockdown in the 10th round, Manny Pacquiao dominated American Shane Mosley, who showed his age against a fighter who further cemented his reputation as the world's best pound-for-pound boxer.

Pacquiao, the eight-division world champion, succeeded in defending his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title against Mosley on Saturday night (Sunday morning in Manila) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The southpaw Pacquiao again showcased his trademark power-punching and hand speed in scoring a unanimous decision win over his American challenger.

A solid left by Pacquiao dropped Mosley in the third as the Filipino champion pressed his attack.

Washington Informer Marissa Coats drove in six runs as Howard’s softball team dominated Maryland Eastern Shore (7-40, 2-13 MEAC) 15-5 in five innings on Saturday, May 7, at Banneker Field in Northwest. The Bison ended the regular season 16-26 and 8-7 in conference play and will now shift their attention to the upcoming MEAC Tournament in Ormond Beach, Fla., May 12 through May 14. At halftime during Saturday’s game, Howard University honored the team’s four graduating seniors. Graduates include: Jessica Hurston, Emily Johnson, Carly Martin and Christine Sborz.
