Mystics Lose to Fever

The Washington Mystics fell to the visiting Indiana Fever in the fourth quarter for the third time this season. They entered the fourth trailing by one. But, in the next three minutes, Indiana pickup a 12-point lead before 11,595 fans on Sun., Aug. 2 at the Verizon Center in Northwest.

â€œI don't think it's a lack of effort by our team by any means. They continue to fight; it's just really focusing and making stops. I thought we gave up a lot of easy scores at the start of the fourth quarter, and when you have the momentum that can't happen,â€ said Mystics head coach Julie Plank."

The Fever (15-4) maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way to secure the 87-79 win -- its third victory over the Mystics (10-9) in 13 days.

â€œWe have huge breakdowns in the fourth quarter. It's happened before. It's not just tonight and it's something that we need to figure out. We dug ourselves a hole so late in the game it was hard to come back from that. We did fight back, but we shouldn't have been in that situation,â€ said forward Monique Currie.

â€œI continue to go back to the mental lapses that we have, and we had a huge one at the beginning of the fourth quarter. If I could put my finger on one thing, it would be changed, but I can't. If we knew what it was, it wouldn't be there,â€ said guard Alana Beard.
