The Washington Wizards kicked off the NBA Cares Week of Service with their annual "Salute to the Stars" event, which honors men and women serving in the military. The tribute took place Monday, Oct. 22 at J&G Steakhouse at the W Hotel in Northwest D.C.
Serving as celebrity waiters were Wizards players John Wall, Bradley Beal, Emeka Okafor, Jordan Crawford and Shelvin Mack. Team broadcaster and Wizards Bullets alumni association member Phil Chenier, assistant coach Sam Cassell, Wizards Executive Vice President of Business Operations Greg Bibb and the Wizards Girls also participated in the festivities.
More than 100 combat veterans and their families, as well as wounded service personnel attended as the team's special guests, representing the Air Force, Army, Marines and Navy.
The Wizards are committed to the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area and will focus on the following five pillars to maximize their impact on the community: education and scholarship, hunger and homelessness, military and veteran's affairs, pediatric health and fitness and youth basketball and hockey.
