Philadelphia, known as ‘The City of Brotherly Love,’ showed no love to the Army Black Knights when their quest to capture the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy was ended by a missed field goal and fumbled away during the 113th Army-Navy game at Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday, Dec. 9.
The Black Knights conquered the Midshipman in first downs (26-18), rushing yards (370-167), and total offense yards (418-297). That, however, was not enough to end their 11-year losing streak against the Midshipman. Going into the fourth quarter the Black Knights led the Midshipman by 3, and looked pretty good as they moved the ball down field, but could not hold on to the lead.
With 6 minutes and 57 seconds left in the fourth quarter, the Black Knights missed a critical field goal, and Navy freshman quarterback Keenan Reynolds went to work connecting with slotback Geoffrey Whiteside, for 10 yards. Three plays later he connected with wide receiver Brandon Turner for a 49 yard gain placing the Midshipman 8 yards away from victory. During the next play QB Keenan Reynolds rushed 8 yards into the end zone. The final score of the game -- Navy 17 Army 13.
