ESPN commentator Rob Parker has been suspended over recent comments made about NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III. The "First Take" commentator has been put on indefinite suspension by the network with a full review to be conducted by ESPN.
According to a report today from Boston.com, Parker made comments during a debate with fellow commentator Sky Bayless. The debate was over Griffin III who currently is the star rookie quarterback for the Washington Redskins.
Parker's comments included:
"My question, which is just a straight, honest question, is . . . is he a brother, or is he a cornball brother? He's not really. He's black, but he's not really down with the cause. He's not one of us. He's kind of black, but he's not really like the guy you'd want to hang out with."
Griffin had recently said "he doesn't want to be defined solely as black quarterback." RG3 as he is referred to is currently married to a white woman, Rebecca Liddicoat, whom he met while attending Baylor University.
The "First Take" program on ESPN can be seen daily on Cox Cable channel 25 for ESPN. Robert Griffin III's next television appearance could be on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. EST when the Rekdsins play in Cleveland. Griffin is currently considered questionable in terms of playing on Sunday due to a knee injury sustained last weekend.
