Lifting As We Climb (LAWC) congratulates Vernon Davis (#85, 49ers) and the San Francisco 49ers for an outstanding performance this weekend to advance to the NFC Championship.
Davis scored two touchdowns but his team (49ers) lost their game and Davis will miss going to the Super Bowl.
Davis has been a long-time supporter of Lifting As We Climb, and the summer youth program, "Sound Mind, Sound Body(TM)"(SMSB) Academy.
To date, with the help of Vernon and many other committed leaders, the program has impacted more than 5,000 underprivileged young men (ages 13-18) by teaching our "SMSB" Formula:
"ACADEMICS + ATHLETICS + SMART CHOICES = MVP! Our goal is to not only improve high-school graduation rates of inner-city, at-risk youth, but to also provide them with Life-Skills and tools to enable their success in college and beyond.
With the outstanding performance that Vernon displayed on the field by catching the game-winning touchdown, he is also a MVP off the field as well.
As of Sat., Jan. 21, Vernon partnered with Lifting As We Climb to implement a 10-week, tutoring/mentoring program at his alma-mater, Dunbar, Senior High-School.
In addition to Math, Reading Comprehension, and Writing Skills Development, the program will be focused on helping students to prepare and pass the SAT.
The "Vernon & Vontae Davis Sound Mind, Sound Body Saturdays" will change the lives of 50 young men, as they will be challenged both mentally and physically to become a SMSB MVP.
Lifting As We Climb thanks Davis for his continued support and commitment to the youth in his hometown of Washington, DC, and we wish him well on his quest for the Super Bowl.
