The University of the District of Columbia Firebird’s men’s basketball team was defeated by the Alderson-Broaddus Battlers, 86-73 on Mon. Jan. 5. Alderson-Broaddus led the entire game, shooting 54 percent (27-50) in two-point field goals, and 80 percent from the free throw line.
Led by senior guard Stan Hall, who posted a game high 28 points and grabbed five rebounds, the Battlers had four players score in double figures. Alderson-Broaddus led by six at halftime (41-35) and were shooting 62 percent (16 for 26) from the field.
Joining Hall in double figures were senior guard Sam Liggins with 24 points, senior forward Montel Lee (17) and junior guard Terrell Eargle (10). The leading scorer for UDC was senior guard Kechan Myers with 26 points, followed by sophomore guard Tim Ellison with 22, and freshman forward Alex Murray with 11 points. UDC shot 51 percent from the field and 76 percent (19 of 25) from the free throw line, but made only 2 of 8 three point shots (25 percent).
The loss drops the firebirds to 4-9 on the season, while Alderson-Broaddus improved to 8-1. Next up for UDC is a game vs. Mansfield State on Wed. Jan. 7, a team they defeated at home on Dec. 20.
