Marissa was an integral part of building a championship program at Maryland and has consistently demonstrated an ability to elevate her game at crucial times during the course of a game,†said Mystics Vice President and General Manager, Angela Taylor.
“Her size, versatility, and ability to score from anywhere on the floor makes her a very special player. Her competitiveness, work ethic, and passion for winning have made her a champion. All of which will certainly will be great complements to the players we have on our roster.â€
Coleman, a 6-1 Guard/Forward from the University of Maryland is one of the most prolific scorers in this year’s draft. In 2009, she was named the ACC tournament’s Most Valuable Player and earned a spot on the All-ACC First team for leading Maryland to its first ACC title since 1989. She was recently named to the State Farm All-America team and the Associated Press All-American team. This past year, Coleman averaged 18.1 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per game. She is the first player in the ACC to record over 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 400 assists, 200 steals and 100 blocks.
Coleman earned numerous honors during her four years at Maryland. In 2006, she was named the ACC Rookie of the Year and made the All-ACC tournament first team. She has been a Wooden Award Preseason Candidate in 2006 and 2008. Coleman was named Associated Press All-American Honorable Mention in 2007 and 2008. She also was on the ACC second team from 2006-2008.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) -- The Masters delivered the show everyone wanted and a champion no one expected. Angel Cabrera became the first Argentine to win the green jacket at Augusta National on Sunday by surviving a wild final round that began with a supercharged duel between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson and ended with a stunning collapse by Kenny Perry.
Indeed, this Masters had it all.
Two shots behind with two holes to play, Cabrera fought his way into a three-way playoff when the 48-year-old Perry, on the verge of becoming golf's oldest major champion, bogeyed the final two holes.

The college game differs from the professional game in one major factor – fighting is not allowed. In college, one fighting offense equals getting ejected from the current game plus a one game suspension as opposed to a five-minute penalty in the NHL.

Under Butler, the Firebirds spent most of the 2008-2009 season nationally ranked, reaching a peak of No. 16 on the USA Today ESPN Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. They finished the regular season with a 24-4 record and ranked 20th among NCAA Division II schools. They were No. 8 in the Atlantic region. The Firebirds participated in the 2009 Independent Women’s Basketball Tournament in St. Augustine, Florida, winning both games.
The Henry Wise Pumas traveled to Laurel on Fri. April 17 to take on the Spartans. The Spartans took a 2-0 lead in the third inning, however, the Pumas were able to bite back in the fourth inning when starting pitcher Andrew Byrd hit 2 run RBI to tie the game. Not only did Byrd drive in 2 runs, he stopped 16 batters at the plate. The Puma’s third basemen Zachary Myers followed up in the fourth and sixth innings with a total of 4 RBI’s that set the final score at 6-2.

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- With one final blowout, UConn grabbed the national title and a piece of basketball history. Tina Charles had 25 points and grabbed 19 rebounds Tuesday night as UConn routed Louisville 76-54 and captured the Huskies' sixth national championship.
It wasn't just that Connecticut claimed another title. It was how they did it. UConn won every one of its 39 games by double digits, an unprecedented run in college basketball.
Charles was the star of the last big win. She commanded both ends of the floor and Louisville, which lost badly to UConn for the third time this season, had no one who could stop her.

The Washington Wizards are coming off of a 19-63 season, marred by injuries to Gilbert Arenas and Brendan Haywood. But Saunders sees the chance to coach the Wizards as a golden opportunity.

Coach Tom Soehn gave opportunities to the youngsters and then watched them outplay the opponents.
“I’ve said from the beginning that we have a deep team and it was fun to get them on the field and let them show what they’re about, their character; the qualities of why we brought some of them here. It’s probably one of the deepest teams I’ve coached. So I have confidence in them, because they’ve shown me every day,†Soehn said.
