I was listening to WPFW radio station this past weekend and heard “Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now,” and I got to thinking about Dr. Calvin Rolark and his radio show; that was his theme song. Dr. Rolark was such a giant in our community and if he were still alive I know he would be very proud of the way his daughter, Denise Rolark Barnes, has expanded The Washington Informer brand. It’s a great example of how a parent works hard to leave something for their offspring and the offspring work hard to expand on what was left to them. Now that is the American Dream, and if more of us believed in that, we would be like the song goes on to say, “We’re on the Move.”

The Informer Even Inspires D.C.’s Youth

My teacher has us read an article each week in The Washington Informer. We use the article to help us learn how to write sentences and paragraphs. We have been doing this since school started. I really like to read the articles about the young people in Washington, D.C. who are doing good things. When I finish high school, I want to go to college to study journalism so I can write for a newspaper. Maybe someday I will write for The Washington Informer, which would really make my mother proud.

Thank you very much,
