Howard Defeated in College Cup Opening Game

The D.C. College Cup was an idea of former Howard University soccer coach and athletic director, Dr. Ted Chambers. Chambers€ intention was to have the area colleges compete annually in a pre-season warm up tournament. The tournament is rotated among the schools each year before the regular season starts.

The 2009 tournament was held at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va. On Wed., Sept. 2, the opening game of the tournament, George Mason defeated Howard 2-1. The D.C. Cup continued on Sat., Sept. 5 with a pair of matches at George Mason Stadium. The Bison took on George Washington University in the opening match, while the host Patriots faced off against American in the final match of the tournament with American taking home the Ted Chambers Cup.
