Unity Health Care (Unity) and CareFirst BlueCross and BlueShield (CareFirst) will host a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony launching Unity's newly acquired Mobile Medical Outreach Vehicle. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 4, 2010, in front of the 801 East Health Center, East Building on the grounds of St. Elizabeth's Hospital located at 2700 Martin Luther King, Jr., S.E., Washington, DC.
With the generous support of CareFirst, Unity was able to purchase a 34-foot mobile medical vehicle. The vehicle is fully equipped with a spacious modern exam room, two private offices for social work, medical interviews or other services, storage space, and Wi-Fi capability for electronic medical records accessibility.
Unity has been providing services to District residents for more than 25 years. The new vehicle will provide a full range of services such as primary medical care, substance abuse assessments and prevention education, HIV/AIDS rapid testing and counseling, glucose screening, referrals to specialty care and linkages into one of Unity's medical homes for ongoing medical services.
"We thank CareFirst for its continued support and through their generous donation, this mobile medical outreach vehicle will provide Unity with the versatility that will allow us to further our efforts in reaching both the homeless and medically vulnerable populations residing in our nation's capital," said Vincent A. Keane, Unity Health Care's President and CEO.
"Since 2004, we have gladly partnered with Unity Health Care on initiatives to bring underserved D.C. residents access to dental care, diabetes prevention, vaccinations, and mobile medical care," said CareFirst President and CEO Chet Burrell. "Moving forward, our goal is to catalyze a change in how care is delivered in the District, helping residents to live healthier and address health risks before they develop into more serious health problems."
