Bison Lose MEAC Opener to Hampton

The Howard University Bison football team dropped their MEAC Conference opener to the Pirates of Hampton 31-21 on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Greene Stadium in Washington, D.C. In front of a crowd of 7,086.

The Bison jumped out to a 7-0 lead on a 15 yard run by quarterback Casey Council with 10:24 remaining in the first quarter.

Hampton returned the favor with 1:47 left in that first quarter on a one yard run by Steve Robinson. That touchdown culminated an 80 yard drive on 17 plays.

Howard took a 14-7 lead in the second quarter on a two yard run by Terrance Laffall with 2:46 remaining in the first half.

Hampton aided by a Bison penalty of roughing the passer went 60 yards in 1:29 seconds to tie the game at halftime.

" That drive hurt us." said Howard head coach Carey Bailey. " It was a backbreaker."
Hampton scored 17 unanswered points behind their quarterback David Legree who passed for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Legree also rushed for 63 yards on 7 carries.

Howard scored with 29 seconds remaining on a one yard run by Terry Bradden to make the final score 31-21 Hampton.

Howard will hosts Florida A&M next Saturday at Greene Stadium and the kickoff is set for one pm.
