Florida A&M Rattlers Manhandle Bison At Home

Howard University football coach Carey Bailey entered his press conference a beaten man after watching his Bison fall to the Rattlers of Florida A&M 50-7 before a crowd of 5,286 at Greene Stadium Saturday afternoon. The loss dropped the Bison to 0-3 on the season 0-2 in the MEAC Conference. The Rattlers improved to 2-1 and remained unbeaten in MEAC play with a record of 2-0.
" We just didn't play well offensively, defensively, and special teams." " The special teams were disastrous, it was not a good day." Bison head coach Carey Bailey said. " I felt like I was in the ring with a young Jack Johnson" ( a former heavyweight champion ) the coach said.
The Rattlers started their scoring parade with 1:53 seconds remaining in the first quarter on a three yard run by Lavante Page. That drive featured a 34 yard pass from Martin Ukpai to Issac West as the Rattlers took a 7-0 lead.
Florida A@M took a 14-0 lead with 14:26 remaining in the second quarter on a 78 yard pass from Martin to Eddie Rocker.
The Bison closed the gap to 14-7 on a two yard run by Justin Duncan. In that drive Duncan rushed for 69 yards on 4 rushes. That drive totaled 6 plays for 79 yards and took 2:46 to complete.

Quarterback Casey Council fumbled on the next Howard possession and Qier Hall recovered the fumble returning the miscue 30 yards for a Rattler touchdown. That made the score 21-7 with 8:43 to go in the second half.
The Rattlers special teams were a thorn in Howard's game plan all afternoon. The Rattlers blocked Bryan Jackson's punt and it was recovered by the Rattler's Alphonso Walker. Lavante Page scored the Rattlers final points of the second half with 6:16 remaining to make the score 27-7 as Howard blocked the extra point
Eddie Rocker scored on a 4 yard run with 9:24 remaining in the third quarter as the Rattlers took a 33-7 lead into the final quarter. The bison defense blocked the point after touchdown.
The fourth quarter was just as unkind to the Bison as the Rattlers had their longest drive of the game going 78 yards on 8 plays which ended on a 18 yard touchdown by Eddie Rocker his second of the day as the Rattlers increased their lead to 40-7. Rocker finished his day with 58 yards on 10 carries. as the Rattlers out rushed the Bison 227 yards to 165.
" We cannot mistakes." We are not a football team that can put ourselves in positions that other teams can capitalize." said Howard coach Bailey.
The Rattlers added a field goal and another touchdown on a blocked punt by the Rattler special teams to make the final score 50-7.
One bright spot for the Bison running back Justin Duncan rushed for 102 yards on 16 carries. He became the first 100 yard rusher since 2006. " He ran hard, he's a tough kid." said Coach
Bailey on Duncan's performance.
" Each week were getting better that's the goal." said Rattler head coach Joe Taylor on his teams performance. " Our coaching staff challenged the team this week to step it up." said coach Taylor.
The Bison will look at the film and face the Bears of Morgan State University at Giant Stadium Saturday. The kick off is set for 3:30 pm in the New York Urban League Classic.
