One of the daughters of slain civil rights leader Malcolm X has been arrested in North Carolina on identity theft charges.

According to reports, Malikah Shabazz, 45, was arrested late last month on an outstanding warrant after police went to her home in western North Carolina on a tip that her 13-year-old daughter had not been attending school. It was after speaking with Shabazz, that they found out about a warrant relating Shabazz to $55,000 in credit card charges on an account that belonged to the widow of one of Malcolm X's body guards.

The theft reportedly occurred between August 2006 and November 2007 when Shabazz lived in Queens, NY.

According to the Huffington Post, Shabazz - who had been living in North Carolina for a year -- could be extradited to New York to face charges on several outstanding warrants that include grand larceny and forgery.

Shabazz's attorney, Sean Devereux, said in reports that while the warrants appear to be from two years ago, his client was never served with the papers. Devereux also said Shabazz is not fighting extradition and is eager to return to New York.
