'Obamacare' Now Really Means 'Obama Cares'

Who would have thunk, back when the Tea Party faction of the Timothy McVeigh Party [Republicans] coined the expression "Obamacare" as a pejorative reference to the Affordable Care Act which was signed into law by President Barack Obama, who would have thunk back then that the derisive term would one day be the law of the land, upheld by the Supreme Court?

Who would have thunk that conservative Chief Justice John Roberts, who was so flustered looking into the eyes of the first black president that he would stumble over the words of the oath of office, who would have thunk that Roberts would be the decisive vote along with the court's four liberal justices?

Well that is exactly what happened on June 28, and now - though the Obama - haters may be averse - the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, or whatever you may want to call it is now settled law. Die in your rage, Obama haters!

It's amusing to me that leaders of the Tim McVeigh Party are now promising to fight the law until their last breath. Good. Let them spend all their resources on revisiting that fight and we'll see how many Senate seats they gain in the 2012 elections. We'll see if they retain control of the House of Representatives. We'll see if former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney wins the race to the White House using that strategy.

But if the decision had gone the other way, if Chief Justice Roberts had sided with the conservative "judicial activists" on the court, who like to "legislate from the bench" according to their own ideological predispositions [read Bush v. Gore], then the right wingers would already be making appointments with the current occupant of the White House so they could come in and measure the Oval Office for new drapes. They would be lining up so they could dance on President Obama's political grave. They would have already said "it's over" for the Obama legacy.

Since this decision went in a big way for Obama they are now saying with one voice, "the struggle continues," and like the disembodied hand in the "Terminator" movie, their prime directive is to bury Obama so he cannot win a second term. Get over it dudes. The matter has been decided. Obamacare now means "Obama cares." Obama cares about extending health care coverage for millions and millions of Americans who had no coverage before.

The Supreme Court decision now means: children can no longer be denied coverage due to pre-existing conditions; seniors are paying less for prescription drugs; students and young adults can stay on their parents' health care plans; and being a woman is no longer a pre-existing medical condition: all this according to soon-to-once-again-be-Speaker-of-the-House Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

This episode should be a lesson to everyone. White conservatives want everyone to "play by the rules," so long as the outcome at the end, finds them in the lead. If they lose playing by the rules, then they won't concede their defeat and congratulate the champion, they'll insist on continuing the game, wanting to play, double-or-nothing, until they finally prevail.
